Who We Are
Eko-Nutrition Empowerment Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening nutrition and promoting sustainable food systems across Africa. We operate at the intersection of nutrition education, advocacy, youth engagement, and climate action.
Our name reflects our philosophy:
- Èkó means to teach
- Echo represents amplifying voices
- Eco reflects our commitment to ecological balance
Together, these principles guide how we work, who we serve, and the future we seek to build.
Our Vision
To see an Africa where nutrition is rooted in knowledge, amplified by voice, and sustained by nature, empowering every generation to live healthier lives within resilient food systems.
Our Mission
We empower African communities to reclaim the power of food through culturally rooted education, amplified local voices, and climate-smart food systems, improving health, resilience, and environmental sustainability.
Our Approach
We work collaboratively with communities, institutions, and partners to deliver practical education, advocate for systemic change, and elevate youth leadership in nutrition and climate action.
Our Triad Strategy
At Eko-Nutrition Empowerment Foundation, our work is guided by a three-part strategy that addresses nutrition at its roots. We teach communities through culturally grounded education, amplify local voices and youth leadership to drive awareness and change, and sustain impact by promoting climate-smart food systems that protect both people and the planet.
Èkó | Teach
The word Èkó comes from the Yoruba language, meaning to teach, train, or build understanding.
For us, teaching is not just the transfer of information. It is about restoring knowledge as power.
Across many African communities, people are disconnected from nutrition knowledge, food choices, and the science behind what they eat. This gap fuels malnutrition, diet-related diseases, and poor food decisions.
Èkó | Teach
Through Èkó , we:
- Deliver culturally grounded nutrition education
- Translate science into everyday understanding
- Equip communities, especially youth, with practical food knowledge
- Build capacity for informed, healthy living
Èkó is where change begins: with understanding.
Eco | Sustain
Nutrition does not exist in isolation. It depends on land, climate, systems, and ecosystems.
Eco represents ecological balance and sustainability. It reflects our belief that healthy people require healthy food systems.
Climate change threatens food availability, affordability, and nutritional quality. Without climate-smart approaches, nutrition gains cannot last.
Eco | Sustain
Through Eco, we:
- Promote sustainable and climate-smart food systems
- Integrate climate education into nutrition programming
- Support community-level food resilience initiatives
- Align with climate action and food system resilience goals
Eco ensures that nutrition today does not compromise nutrition tomorrow.
Echo | Amplify
Knowledge alone does not create change unless it is heard, shared, and defended.
Echo represents amplification. It reflects our commitment to raise voices, stories, and lived experiences around nutrition, food systems, and health equity.
Many communities are affected by food insecurity and climate challenges but remain unheard in policy, media, and decision-making spaces.
Echo | Amplify
Through Echo, we:
- Use storytelling and digital advocacy to amplify local voices
- Engage youth as communicators and change agents
- Shape conversations around nutrition, climate, and health equity
- Advocate for better food environments and informed policies
Echo ensures that nutrition is not silent. It is visible, spoken, and defended.
